Juliet Balcony Regulations UK

Juliet balconies are classed as a guarding system under UK Building Regulations and are primarily designed to prevent falls from windows or doors. All installations must comply with Part K – Protection from Falling, along with guidance from BS 6180:2011 covering barriers within buildings.

The top of the guarding must be positioned at least 1,100mm above finished floor level to provide adequate protection. This is the recognised British Standard requirement for balcony safety.

Balustrade systems must be capable of withstanding horizontal loads of 0.36kN/m² for domestic settings and up to 0.74kN/m² for commercial or public environments. Our systems are designed and tested to meet these requirements.

Depending on the design and span, toughened or laminated safety glass is used, typically ranging between 10mm and 21.5mm thickness. Our team will advise on the correct specification to ensure compliance and performance.

Juliet balconies can be face-fixed to the building façade or installed using brackets, spigots, or track systems. Each method has specific structural considerations, and our technical team will recommend the most suitable solution for your project.

We provide full supporting documentation and test data for building control approval, ensuring every installation is fully compliant and fit for purpose.
